Brooks and Frank Robinson in the classic road jerseysAs everyone knows by now, the Sun’s Jeff Zrebiec broke the news late yesterday that the Baltimore Orioles will soon be known once again as the Baltimore Orioles.

It’s a move that doesn’t really surprise me. The last year has been all about turning the corner and making right what once was so terribly wrong. I can’t say I predicted this, but I read the news and all I could think was “well, that makes sense.”

I particularly love the fact that Peter Angelos appears to have been the driving force behind the decision — that must gall the whiners to no end. You just know that certain folks out there would have loved to embrace this decision but refuse to give any credit to Angelos. What will they bitch about now, I wonder? It will surely be something, but what?

Anyway, bravo to Peter Angelos, Andy MacPhail, and everyone else behind this move. Two things, though:

First, please go through with this. Don’t pull back, or make the “Baltimore” jerseys an alternate. No gimmicks with this one.

Second, don’t screw this up! Hire a good, professional design firm (get in touch if you need help) and make sure the new look represents the proud traditions of this club. There are a lot of stupid uniforms out there — don’t join that club. Please, please, please.

Also, don’t change the hats unless you’re going back to the cartoon bird. No newfangled, shiny, swooshy nonsense please. Stay original and classy, or you’ll have to do this all again in about four or five years. Trust me.

How did you take the news, and how would you approach getting it done?
