Flacco Signs

Ravens quarterback Joe FlaccoNo real surprise here, but it’s good that it happened well before the start of camp: Joe Flacco has signed a 5-year deal with the Ravens. He’ll be ready to compete for the starting job — which he believes he’s capable of winning — from day one.

I’m not a fan of the trend towards starting young quarterbacks early. As a rule I think there should be a minimum one-year apprenticeship at the NFL level. Then again, it’s not like the Ravens have a veteran he can learn from. It’s a tough call.

Camp opens next week, by the way, and I’ve re-enlisted Justin (from last year) to help with regular coverage and game wrapups. Should be a fun season.

Also, start thinking about what you’d like to see covered here during the baseball offseason. There’ll be plenty of football, of course, but is there anything you want to see? More Wizards? More Caps? Let me know in the comments, and feel free to nominate yourself for a guest post if you have an idea you just have to put out there. I’m always willing to listen on that sort of thing.

Nobody here fears the Turtle. More Terps basketball, as terrible as it might be.

Good call, Andrew. I’ve tried to cover them at various points in the past but I always kind of fade out. I’ll try to update them at least once a week this season — which should be extra fun considering they’ll be lucky to finish anywhere but last in the ACC.

It’d be nice if you could, ideally, cover the Terps in football and basketball, Ravens, perhaps the Caps and Wizards (but then you’d have to do the Redskins and Nats, too, right?), and maybe from time to time the various minor league baseball teams all around Maryland, in addition to the various odd things like the Dew Tour, etc. as much as the Orioles get covered.

If that means you need some guys like Justin to come in and fill in as needed, I’d say do it Neal. Being in Rochester 3/4 of the year, I don’t get much in terms of non-Orioles coverage - and the Orioles stuff I get is because I’m into a lot of paid subscriptions that I can’t afford to follow the Terps or the Ravens.

Yes, the more I think about it, the more I want a regular minor league post or something.

I can’t believe that it’s 1:30 and I still have no idea how Big Ben or his motorcycle feel about the Flacco signing…

sorry joe i was coming up with the name of my flacco booster section at the stadium.

i decided to go with “flacco seagulls”

i just hope that people at tlc are old enough to remember them, or more specifically the singer’s haircut which i hope to find in wig form to wear as flacco leads us to the superbowl in three years.

of course that’s assuming that michael vick doesn’t in ‘10.

There are limits, Andrew, and some of them are intentional. Like college football, for example, isn’t something I have a passion to cover. But I get your point and I agree that the non-baseball months need to have a wide range of quality coverage of the local landscape. That’s the goal.

@ Ben: “Flacco Seagulls” is awesome.

  7. Kyle Boller's Segway Says:

Flacco Seagulls is good, but Flacco is too close to Falco to resist:

“Don’t turn to Boller, AH-oh (ja ja) Der Kwarterbak’s in town, oh-OWW”

(I couldn’t think of one for Rock Me Amadeus)
