Gentlemanly Means Pursued

Jays Sign Loewen

This one qualifies as a shocker: the Blue Jays have signed Adam Loewen to a minor league deal, ending his chances (at least for now) of returning to the Orioles as a hitter.

Apparently, according to MacPhail, it’s all about his dream to play in/for Canada.

And thus concludes one of the strangest sagas in recent Orioles history.

This basically sucks. Now there’s NO chance of any return on that draft pick, one of the most hyped O’s picks ever. Not that there was much of a chance anyway with his transition to hitter, but still. Definitely bizarre…

That feels like such a kick to the teeth. To be fair, though, the guy’s got only this last chance to be anything except the next coming of Luis Terrero, and a fat one at that. He might as well take the opportunity to sign with his hometown team. If he were an actual prospect, I’d probably be angrier. Evenso, it feels like such a kick to the teeth.

Thanks for all the fish, Adam.

This pisses me off. Loewen’s a good kid, and I guess our outfield depth is pretty deep, but damn. Would have been nice of him to stick with the team that gave him chance after chance after chance.

    Bah.

I’m mad because of how it played out, but in all fairness… the kid knows he’ll probably never have another shot at playing in the Majors again, I’m not sure I could blame him for wanting his last hurrah with the team he rooted for growing up. I would want to finish whatever career I had left with my boyhood team.

True, true, in the end it’s hard to blame him for that.
