News Item: Fighting Ungers

Just wanted to take a second to let you all know that my friends Marc and Andrew, aka The Fighting Ungers, are no longer being heard on WNST. Which means, by extension, that I am also no longer being heard on WNST, at least for the time being.

The real news, though, is that Marc and Andrew have taken their show to Fox Sports 1370, where they’ll be heard from 6-7 pm on Mondays and Fridays (occasionally longer, depending on Wizards games) and from 9-10 am on Saturdays.

Odds are I’ll be joining them now and then, and I’ll keep you posted. In the meantime, check ‘em out when you get a chance. They do a hell of a fun show.

That’s some interesting news for sure. 1370 isn’t terrible, although I’m not the biggest Jerry Coleman or Jim Rome fan (though they have their moments). But I love that they have Wizards games because you had to go to some obscure Christian station with a bad signal to find them. And the addition of the Ungers is huge.

Also, I’m pretty down with the new 105.7. I really dig Weinman and Cunningham.

the bottom line with this new radio station to me is simple. the shows i’ve heard are adequate enough – i dig bruce cunningham et al but that’s almost beside the point.

105.7 has what 1300, 1370, 1570 etc. have never had – the ability to reach us virtually everywhere we are.

    seems kind of elementary yes?

well, it’s nice to get a radio station while you pass a tall building or a random freakin’ telephone pole once in a while.

Now that Neal isn’t on the show anymore you should confess what we all already know about The Ungers. They were (are) unlistenable. I actually found myself turning the dial to listen to the gal down the dial when those two buffoons came on. Neal, you were embarrassing yourself over there with them. Just my .02.

I dig what you’re saying but you should go back and read the post again. I’ll still be embarrassing myself now and then, I’ll just be on 1370 when I do.

  • Thanks CambyRocks! It isn’t easy for me to accept such harsh criticism but I have to respect your opinion. Not sure the buffoon comment was completely neccessary but it certainly got your point accross. The only thing I ask is that you not hold our buffonery against my man Neal. He’s very well informed and a great addition to the show. God Speed.

Didn’t see this until just now. Sorry I was so harsh on you Andrew but you all are supposed to a sports show and you never talk sports. You might be good on some station that relishes that kind of show but I’ve never heard you or Mark make a valid, well schooled point about a sports subject. Granted, I didn’t listen a whole lot but when I did, you weren’t talknig sports so I switched stations. Like most everyone else.

I think that’s what’s so refreshing about the Ungers. There are plenty of other sports-first shows to get your news/sport debates from, but the Ungers seem to actually decide to put sports second and talking shit first, which I find pretty hilarious, and a change of pace on the dial for sure.

  • CambyRocks!

OK, I just figured if there show appeared on a SPORTS station that they should talk SPORTS first and mostly. You wouldn’t find a sports show in the middle of the day on the Fashion channel just for a chance of pace would you? I don’t care anyway. Obviously they aren’t good enough to cut the mustard or they wouldn’t be bouncing all over the place.

Either way, CR, thanks for chiming in. I/we always love when a new voice joins the fold.

Outside of that, I’d say just give the Ungers a chance. Especially *cough* if I happen to be sitting in. They’re both very smart and very engaged, and their show tends to grow on you. It’s not straight sports, true, but it can be a damn fine listen.

Final comment about this. It’s perfectly reasonable to write that YOU don’t like our show. That’s your opinion to which your entitled. But when you write things like “so I switched stations. Like most everyone else.” and “they aren’t good enough to cut the mustard or they wouldn’t be bouncing all over the place.” your just simply saying things that are untrue and unneccesary attacks. I don’t understand the hostility. How can you possibly speak for “everyone else” and what is your basis for for stating that we have “bounced “all over the place”? This is only our second station and we made the move so that MORE people could hear us (bigger signal). From the emails and comments I get from people the show has been very well received (clearly not by you). We dramatically increased our listenership over the span of a year on WNST and will do the same on Fox 1370. I also STRONGLY disagree with your assessment that we RARELY talk about sports. If you’d really listen to the show you’d see that we’re on the topic of sports at least 80% of the time. We simply offer a different take on it and rather than cover what’s already being covered choose to talk about the bigger issues and the funny side of sports. Sometimes we choose to talk about things outside of sports but we’re doing comedy and our main objective is to make people laugh. Just turn us off when we’re on and be happy that their are other choices. That’s what’s great about this country, all the choices we have. Also, if you stick around this site for a while you’ll find that intelligent debate is welcomed but unprovoked and baseless attacks are unwanted. FINALLY…PLEASE CALL IN TO OUR SHOW SOME TIME!!!!!!!! Love to hear from “haters” of our show. That’s always a blast.
