NFL Week Five/MLB Playoffs Open Thread

Lots of good games on tap today, headed by the Ravens looking to build on their impressive early-season run as they welcome the Titans to M&T. Division-wise, the Bengals will take on Dallas while the Steelers have a tough one down in Jacksonville. The Browns, mercifully, have a bye.

It should also be a great game as the Redskins take on the Eagles in Philly.

Meanwhile…

My baseball predictions — as pointed out — were awful. The Dodgers swept the Cubs last night, and the Angels are down 2-0 to the hated Pink Hats. The Brewers did manage a win after going down 2-0 themselves, but two more in a row is asking a lot.

The Rays, though, are up big and that makes me happy.

Man…busy day today.

I’m also curious: did anyone else watch the fights last night? I’ve never been a huge MMA fan but I’ve been coming around as I’ve learned more about the history and the technique. And — just as importantly — as I’ve developed my ability to ignore the terrible, terrible t-shirt graphics, music, and hat-wearing styles.

Anyway, Kimbo Slice got absolutely annihilated in a fashion so devastating that it seems like it ought to end his MMA experiment for good. So if anyone has any thoughts on that, feel free.

Enjoy the games…

    Why don’t you dream anymore

    What’s in the way

Why do you point to the door

    And ask me to stay

Why don’t you flash that smile

    Like you used to do

Why don’t you stay for a while

    It’s up to you

everywhere I go to post there are awkward song lyrics clogging shit up like cat hair in the sink…

    Anyways…

You gotta love Mike Scosia’s “Smallball Over Logic” theory.

I was horrified watching John Lackey throw tantrums on the mound. What a tool. Way to stay focused. I haven’t seen anything like that since my little brother, who was probably 8 at the time, kicking dirt and cussing out a 15 year old umpire.

I’d like to start a petition for the Orioles to be re-located to the AL West. 100 wins?…my ASS.

My girlfriend is just beginning to get into baseball. She’ll watch the 9th with me if the game is tied or close and is basically more interested in the strategies and theories than the game itself.

I was telling her about the Manny-Sox dynamic and the potential for a Dodgers/Red Sox World Series and she mentioned that in “A League of Their Own” the team traded the cranky younger sister because of the stressful clubhouse dynamic, and that the rival team ultimately prevailed because of this.

    Interesting…
