dan the man: @neal s - I love that place! A true gem. BYOB is a great touch, also.

neal s: Duckpin rock-and-bowl at Stoneleigh lanes on York Road. That's good stuff.

O’s-Rays Weekend Thread

First thing: continuing the conversation about the sports figure who most needs to be slapped, Marc has come up with the field of 64. Check it out here.

Can’t say I agree with all of ‘em but that’s the beauty of this kind of thing. Should be a lot of fun to follow.

Moving on, the Orioles are in Tampa for three games with the Rays this weekend. The Rays are 8-3 against the O’s so far this year, and they’re showing no real signs of slowing. The AL East title is pretty squarely in their sights. Which, when you think about it, is both awesome and insane.

Tonight we’ll have Jeremy Guthrie on the hill (thank god) against Scott Kazmir. Chris Waters takes on Andy Sonnanstine tomorrow (Sat.), while Brian Burres goes against James Shields on Sunday. If you missed it, Daniel Cabrera has begun serving his ridiculous six game suspension, so he’s not available.

Incidentally, it’s apparently James Shields weekend in Tampa. The first 7500 fans tonight get a Shields poster, the first 10000 tomorrow get a figurine. Weird.

I’ll leave this as the weekend thread unless some kind of news breaks. See you in the comments…

Guthrie was, I suppose, overdue for a game like this. It happens to almost everyone now and then.

Damn this swoon. Damn it to hell.

Jamie Walker is now giving up one home run for every three innings pitched.

I have this game on the radio — with the sound thankfully down so low I can barely hear it — as I re-read Frederick Exley’s A Fan’s Notes. Look for that book to become the subject of one of my examiner.com posts in the near future. Look for that book now to distract me from this awful, awful night for the O’s.

    Has anyone else read it?

I have read Fan’s Notes, recently actually. I meant to discuss it with you. Did I? Anyway, it’s phenomenal. Really. Everyone should read it. And kind of endlessly re-readable.

Ugly times for this team. Be prepared for an 8 or so win month, if we’re lucky. I really think we should bring up a few of these young pitchers in September. Nothing to lose. I truly hope this is the last of these Septembers. It saps the soul…

    Dude, Dirk Nowitzki? Seriously?

    14-3…

I’m so sick of Stover being the only guy who puts up points for us.

  • neal s

Now might be a good time to make Dilfer the…wait…

  • dan the man

@ ryan: a Dirk fan are you? I dunno, he’s alright. I just don’t like him for whatever reason. Chokes in the playoffs, whines a lot.

What a ridiculous series this is turning out to be. I can’t believe our starting rotation right now, it’s absolutely un-freaking-real the dudes that we are running out there. The biggest reason for these swoons is lack of depth, no question.

I really really consider myself a diehard Orioles fan. And I knew this was coming. I did the same thing last year.

I just don’t care anymore. I can’t continue to watch this team get repeatedly blown out. It’s depressing, and life is depressing enough without having your favorite hobby/obsession be continually a source of frustration and sadness.

Three games at Boston. Let’s show someone something.

  • dan the man

Did Castillo really hit three guys on back to back pitches to force a run in? Good god, what the fugggg does this organization have to do to get some freaking pitchers? Why did we give away Chad Bradford?
