Ravens Make a Desperate Move

With their quarterback corps down to one guy who’s not ready (Joe Flacco) and another who never will be (Casey Bramlet), the Ravens have signed Joey Harrington to a deal.

Here’s a link to the report.

Did I miss the press release announcing that Jim Duquette was replacing Ozzie Newsome?

this is fucked on too many levels to even comment right now.

it’s the kind of fucked that’ll take days to analyze.

I don’t exactly know what this means. Five QBs, all of whom would be backups on any other team, if that?

To be fair, the team is in a nearly impossible situation. They came into this season knowing QB was an issue, and that was when they had three healthy bodies. How often does any team lose its top two options within the space of two weeks?

It happened, though, so I say let Flacco start the whole year, hell or high water. Let him learn what he needs to learn. It’s not an ideal situation, but neither was it ideal when Ben Roethlisberger (who also didn’t play at a big school) took over in his rookie year and proceeded to become an elite QB. The Ravens need to play this hand and never look back.

To me, the Harrington move is bad simply because he’s Joey Harrington. I think Chris Simms made more sense because he still has untapped potential, but I wasn’t at the workouts. They made what they feel is the right move, so it’s time to roll with it.
