Ravens-Titans Wrapup
It’s very rare that I don’t enjoy watching football. Even if I can’t stand the two teams playing I usually find some enjoyment in it. Yet watching the Ravens and the Titans was almost painful. This game left me with more questions than answers. It served as a wake up call. It made me sit up and say to myself “oh yeah, we’re still the Ravens,” despite our recent successes.
Willis McGahee is flat out no good. I don’t care what anyone says or what I’ve said in the past. Case in point: before yesterday’s game he said that one of his goals was “to make it through the entire game.” That’s it? Willis, way to aim high! This is a guy who practically falls down at the thought of being tackled and his list of “injuries” is too long to write out. We have a fullback who is statistically our best tailback in LeRon McClain and a rookie with amazing potential in Ray Rice. Why not use them? McGahee has this organization and this town convinced that he should be the guy because he’s Willis McGahee. Enough is enough.
I am not a huge fan of Samari Rolle but it has become obvious that when he doesn’t play, our secondary is awful. Not sure what the correlation is there because when Rolle does play he’s the worst d-back on the field. Overall, the Ravens’ secondary played a horrible game. I lost track of how many times the Titans converted long third downs. At least the run defense was near perfect—otherwise this game would have been a blowout.
Our rookies, coach John Harbaugh and Joe Flacco have some work to do. Harbaugh has to keep his team in line. The stupid behavior penalties are getting out of hand. At least he found his challenge flag.
One of the best things about Flacco this year has been his ability to learn on the job. When he makes a mistake it’s the last time he’ll make that mistake. That was not the case yesterday. The three picks he threw (we only got one back) were easily the worst passes he has thrown all year, including the preseason. No Raven ever had a chance to even come near the ball on any of those passes. Flacco looked terrified in the pocket, the few times that he actually hung in there. Overall I think he took a few steps back in terms of progress. I hear Troy Smith is feeling healthy…
One final thought, I don’t want to make any excuses, but once again poor officiating had a major effect on an NFL game. The roughing the passer call in the fourth was inexcusable. If I performed like that at my job I’d be fired. It wasn’t as bad as Ed Hochuli’s call in week one but it came pretty close. The NFL needs to take a serious look at their officials this year because their calls should never determine to outcome of a game.
We have another tough one at Indy next week. Until then …
um, it’s ray rice.
keep the faith dude. our qb has played four games and was playing the likes of towson state last year.
and yes, the officiating sucked yesterday but it’s not like the officials marched down the field on us after the penalty.
if i wasn’t poor i’d bet on the ravens to come alive offensively in indy and maybe even dominate that game.
Indy shouldn’t be a tough game. They get run all over by every team that plays them. Good week to start McClain if you’ve got him on your team. It’ll be up to Manning to pass their way of that game.
man i NEVER listen to 1300 but happened to listen today. they’re having some voting drive to determine mcclain’s nickname. if “soul train” doesn’t win i’m gonna be pissed.
i guess i should just say that “soul train” mcclain should be his nickname, period. fuck 1300′s input on the matter.
and yes, the colts are primed and ready for a beatdown. it’s been a long time coming.
Roy Rice… LOL
Let’s just all give Justin the benefit of doubt that it was a typo.
I like your optimism about next week, and I would say the Ravens probably do have a shot at Indy, but it’s a small shot. I wouldn’t be surprised if that game against Houston helps catapult Indy back into the offensive powerhouse they should be. I feel bad for Sage Rosenfel though, I hope he’s not dead by Tuesday.
The bottom line the Ravens are experience Regression to the Mean. They played two crap teams in the beginning of the year and looked great. They played Pittsburgh and despite a lack of greatness, yet again they are sitting at the top of the division finding ways to win. Tennessee is a bit of an odd team. They’re 5-0, and yet I struggle to see how except the great defense (sound familiar).
I predicted the Ravens would be 6-10 this year, and I’m standing by that call. One more of those 10 losses will come next week.

Start tearing the old man down
Run past the heather and down to the old road
Start turning the grain into the ground
Roll a new leaf over
In the middle of the night there’s an old man
Treading around in the gathered rain
Hey Mister if you want to walk on water
Would you drop a line my way

The counting crows had a good song 15 years ago.
awwww drew stopped taking his medication again
Nice work, Brad. Nicely done.
Man, I was listening to that song in the fifth grade. I had a cassette, loved every minute of that album. Angels of the Silences is, however, the best CC song to date.
Really interesting take on the current thoguht process of sports writers and talkers over on Joe Posnanski’s blog, if any of you guys are interested in that sort of thing. He rails against the so-called “Around the Hornization” of the sports media in 2008 and yearns for Fiddler on the Roof in a sports article!
I do love me some Posnanski…just passing on as a recommendation…
Well I came by your house the other day
Your mother said, you went away
She said there was nothing that I could have done
There was nothing nobody could say
Me and you, we’ve known each other, ever since we were 16
I wished I would have known, I wished I could have called you
Beat my head against the wall one more time
Will this solve my problems at all?
I don’t care about parties or a good time
I won’t stand in your line
Swimming in the main stream is such a lame dream
No method to the madness
Beat my head against the wall
Tension builds up so quickly
My judgement becomes affected
And without my even knowing it
I have started to act like a dick
Swimming in the main stream is such a lame dream
No method to the madness
Beat my head against the wall
Running around like a chicken without a head
Get my kicks bouncing around in bed
But the next day I still feel the same
I’ll find a way yo blast again
Swimming in the main stream is such a lame dream
No method to the madness
Beat my head against the wall
black flag?
Rock on Joe!
I know they aren’t/probably cant be for everyone, but what a great band. Are you a fan?
For some reason I thought of that song when the resident rockhead started getting all lyrical on us!
I was always more into Minor Threat
but Rollins is a weird, cool guy for sure
Mmmm. Minor Threat is great. My ex got me into them and all the new hardcore that’s out there. I’ve been blasting the new Have Heart, Ruiner and some old Bane recently. Hardcore will never die!
Amphetimine Reptile!!!!
good to see chris posting again
X?
When I see you, sky as a kite
As high as I might, I can’t get that high
The how, you move, the way, you burst the clouds
It makes me want to try
When I see you sticky as lips
As licky as trips, I can’t lick that far
But when you paw, the way you shout out loud
It makes me want to start
robert smith was a better lyricist than running back
Jesus… Drew has resorted to reciting lyrics when he finally realized no one wanted to listen to him repeat himself.

would it be okay if i referred to drew as “that one” from now on?
oooOOOoo…political humor! How current!
http://i38.tinypic.com/dzxlcx.jpg
This is just…weird. I know this is a bit of a transitional time, but I think it’d be best if we tried to stay at least moderately on-topic.
Agreed. Give us a baseball playoff post when you can Neal. That Cubs collapse is worth some discussion. Insane. Tough to be a Cubs fan, I must say. I guess I would rather have a team go to the playoffs and collapse than collapse every year and not go to the playoffs. But still, the way they went out is just humiliating.
I think I’d be fine with a Boston/ LA world series, just hoping to see the Sox get swept in ironic fashion. I would also take Tampa winning it all. That would be beautiful. I dread Boston/Philly though. Please, don’t let that happen…
Yeah, baseball playoff round two thread is planned for later today. This afternoon probably, no later than tonight. I pretty much agree with everything you said, though…
In my opinion, we have right now the best possible matchups for sheer good baseball to be played. I still like Tampa Bay and Philadelphia, but frankly these series are just too close to call in any real sense. So I’m thankful for that.
Unhealthy Josh Beckett, no Mike Lowell, ineffective Papi. Healthy Rays who somehow don’t fear the Sox at all. Rays in 6.
@ AooR: if that political humor comment was to me, it wasn’t my intention to say anything political with the radiohead lyrics. I just thought they described “that one” pretty accurately.
Dan – Andrew’s comment was at BBM. Damn dude read the thread before commenting.

I thought we had an unwritten ban on politics here. I think that’s for the good of the nation.

I think the Baseball Gods have been making sure the Dodgers will play the Red Sox in the Series.
How else can you explain the first three run single in the history of the playoffs? Or the Suicidal Scosia?
“that one” LOL
I know I’m a few posts behind, but that was hilarious.
Is it at all possible for a Red Sox/Rays world series? I wish we could vote for that and call it quites. The NL sucks.
As for football…I got nothin’. This season is bizarre to say the least.
“that one” (noun) – two words most likely to cause some kind of weird cosmic freakout by otherwise bright men seeking the warm teet of baseball in an decidedly political world
