Sunday NFL Open Thread
There’s a lot at stake for the Ravens today. With a win in Houston against the Texans they’d move to 6-3, able then to retreat to the comfort of their hotel and watch the Steelers play a tough game against Indy. If the stars line up, both teams could be tied for the division lead coming out of week 10.
It’s not going to be easy, though. As the Houston Chronicle‘s Jerome Solomon points out, this game also means a lot to the other team. They’re playing at home in what basically amounts to a must-win situation, and it’s unlikely they’ll go down lightly.
These are the kinds of games that can trap rookie quarterbacks and head coaches. Ray Lewis and company will more than likely need to carry the day.
Here’s the Sun‘s full scouting report.
As for the rest of the division, the Browns already embarrassed themselves on Thursday night in a meltdown loss to the Broncos, while the hapless Bengals have a bye.
i’m confused. i thought the steelers were playing on the road today as well but i just looked at the schedules that said the steelers play at home today. also it appears that the steelers are at home for five of the remaining eight games.
not good for the ravens who have some brutal road games coming up.
That’s so weird — I actually heard someone this week on the radio say the words “at Indy” and it just stuck with me.
Thanks for catching that — I fixed it in the main entry.
shit i think i heard ten different media outlets report that. kind of changes things.
the steelers play their next THREE at home. in other words, today is a must win for the ravens and practically a must lose for the steelers if you’re a ravens fan.
not that anything would be over but i hadn’t realized how much of an advantage pittsburgh has going for them right now.
Flacco is the real f-ing deal, boys.
Offense! Throwing down field! Football is fun again!
Plus our running game is in good shape – Rice is a great draft pick.
T-sizzle!
Yeah, I keep slipping back into thinking we’re still in the Boller-era of “Shit, 1st and 15…well, maybe our defense can keep them and get us the ball back” and next thing I know we’ve got a first down on a bomb down the field. Offensive football is indeed fun to watch.
this defense man. you know it’s great when they give up 3 points and you’re like “what the fuck was that”!
man the ravens look good but harbaugh’s decisions are so fucking strange sometimes. throws the red flag on a meaningless play and loses after not throwing it in important situations previously.
now he lets stover attempt a 50 yard field goal (that he misses terribly) when a freaking walk on kicker from division three just hit a 54 yarder earlier.
and by the way the texans hit a 60 yard td on the next play.
what the FUCK
Yeah, but is there anything Flacco can’t do?
2 pointer, sure why not?
to be honest i thought the best part about that was that flacco got LEVELED on the previous play and came right back with the td pass and two point conversion.
to me one of the only remaining questions about flacco is his toughness and it seemed to piss him off and motivate him more when that happened (good sign).
still can’t believe this kid.
heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeap
ahahahaha whoops!
I feel so bad for those poor guys down there. This is getting ridiculous.
andrew did my heap post go straight off the page or is it just my browser?
right off the page…it’s very amusing to me.
it cracked me up when i saw it. the “a” and the “p” in heap are off in cyberspace somewhere.
just wow… nothing else needs to be said.
According to Yahoo, Hauschka (guy who hit the 54 yard field goal) went to NC state. So not DIII, but still, he looks like he’s 12 years old… and he is only 23.
if we beat the giants next week i’ll start talkin’ mad shit. for now, just savoring the moment.
oh random dude i thought i heard the tv guys say he went to middlebury but i might be wrong.
Tied for first, baby!
and the ravens are tied for first
haha we’re tied too
Well, BBM, just about everyone said last week was “must win” and you said today was “must win” and for the Steelers, “must lose”. Now what?
haha, nice
Matt Stover’s career is slowly sailing towards the waterfall at the end of the earth. He had a great one, that’s for sure.
My particular rooting interests weren’t exactly satisfied today, but it feels pretty damn great to get back home and see 26 comments on the football thread. Awesome.
let’s make it simple.
every week is a must win for the ravens.
every week is a must lose for the steelers.
for the rest of eternity.
You called it, man. It’s the race to 9 wins.
Ravens are:
@Giants
Eagles
@Bengals
Redskins
Steelers
@Cowboys
Jaguars
Steelers are:
Chargers
Bengals
@Patriots
Cowboys
@Ravens
@Titans
Browns
Based on that the Steelers appear to have a slight edge, but that pretty much doesn’t mean a damn thing. The Sunday 12/14 game is likely going to mean a hell of a lot.
I think it is going to be tough for Joe the Quarterback to get the Rookie award he deserves over Matt Ryan
which sucks
Except that for Joe Flacco to take the rookie award from Matt Ryan, Matt Ryan would first have to be better than Chris Johnson and Matt Forte, which he isn’t.
