The Streak Ends Here

The Orioles will not lose tonight at home to the Indians. They will not fall prey to the strange medieval energy of Fausto Carmona and his ghostly European overlords. They will not take the field lifeless and listless, beaten.

They will not lose nine in a row.

Instead, Garrett Olson will pitch effectively and the bullpen will follow suit. The bats will get hot and someone will steal a base. Someone else will turn a nice double play.

It will be a good night in Baltimore. There will be joy again at Camden Yards and we will be relieved for the chance to set aside our Hot Stove preparations, if only for a moment.

Remember when games like this didn’t seem weird? Ahhh…

I’m genuinely excited about next year and, even more so, 2010.

    Huff’s had a helluva year.

I’ll give him credit. After making a complete buffoon out of himself last December, he said, “all I can do is go out and have a good year and make people forget about the radio show incident in Tampa…”

And that’s exactly what he’s done, for the most part.

Funny…when I saw the headline of this thread “The Streak Ends Here”, I figured you were writing something about the O’s streak of generating at least 2 million in home attendance coming to an end this season.

Then it dawned on me. Somehow, someway, they’ll wind up above 2 million when the season ends.

I’m not sure how, but watching it unfold will be interesting.

And you’re right about the “on field streak”. It’s coming to an end tonight.

Hell of a win – you called it, Neal.

Huff is a legit cleanup hitter and has gone from overpaid dead weight to one of the biggest bargain power threats in the game. Baseball is an amazing game. With a decent hitting shortstop, we have a hell of a good lineup. Something to hang the old hat on, I suppose.

Love seeing Jones go deep, also.

I second that comment about Huff. Really, quite amazing that he backed up that comment with a totally out of left field amazing season. Wonder what we can get for him this Winter?

You know, if we added maybe one impact bat to replace …say, Millar… and two impact pitchers to enforce the rotation alongside Guthrie, replacing say Brian Burres and Adam Loewen from this year’s version…we might have ourselves a team!

    If only…
