Drew - since when did standings matter this season? This team won't have a late summer swoon and that's the most important thing because for the first time in years, the O's have an actual team with an actual real live baseball manager, and they're making progress. You're a downer and I don't like you.

WATERS - can you believe this? Can he repeat it? Obviously, probably not, but hot damn, if he can do anything resembling it, that would be incredible. Good for the kid - it takes guts to pitch in that situation.

didn't see the results until 0530 this AM, and WOW!! What a great story, and what an outstanding win.

Another great example of winning pitching w/o the 95+ mph fastball.

Already a "crafty" lefty at 27, Waters showed some serious stuff tonight in a truly difficult situation. Obviously, he exceeded the loftiest expectations - except his own. Based on the few quotes from him, and his reactions to pre-game stuff, etc., it seems this guy believes in himself, and then he went out and showed it.

One game wonder? Who knows, but I think the minor league brain trust that recommended him is to be commended, as well as Trembley for saying okay - give 'em the ball and let's see what happens.

Let's take another one today, and my earlier 2 of 3 prediction will seem pretty saavy, rather than wildly optimistic.

Since this is a website all about nicknames for players, I wanted to comment on the one Schmuck inadvertently gave Chris Waters after saying putting him in against the Angels was like taking a poodle to Michael Vicks house. Steve Physioc for the Angels broadcasting team commented that the Poodle was tearing up the pitbull right now.

Chris "Poodle" Waters. I laughed.
