Trachsel Out, Salazar Up…On to Boston

Farewell, Steve Trachsel. Thanks for trying hard and for the Cubs trade.

Also: the O’s are at Boston tonight with the DC Cab taking on Josh “Check Out My Necklace, Brah” Beckett.

Also Also: don’t forget to tune in to AM 1570 WNST (or click on “listen live” at the website) from 6:30-8, where I’ll be guesting again with the Fighting Ungers.

Hell yes. If you don’t feel excited about the future of the Orioles after this win — even if that future still remains a ways off — then you simply don’t love the team. In which case, what the hell is wrong with you?

I didn’t watch any of this, but in the picture up right now on orioles.com it appears that The Stick is rocking a nearly full beard. It’s pretty damn cool — loosen those rules, Andy. Loosen those rules.

  • This is a huge win. Moral victory, folks. Go into pink sux nation and beat ‘em down with fundamental baseball. Gotta’ love it.

Flatbrim not even on the list, Andrew? He’s a much bigger surprise to me than Albers or Bierd or Scott. You make good points, but when we got Sherril most people outside of the organization didn’t even think if him as a closer, let alone a guy who might make the All Star team.

What the hell do you mean “moral victory”? This is an actual victory. Much nicer.

Last year could we have made a dramatic comeback in Fenway Park on a 99 degree day with 100% humidity after Daniel Cabrera walked 4, gave up 6 runs, hit a batter, had a wild pitch, and gave up back to back home runs?

I think you know the answer.

    Re: Sherrill

I thought everyone knew when we traded for him that he was going to be the closer. And based on his numbers last year, when he was pretty damn outstanding (albeit as a left handed specialist mostly) I figured he would probably be pretty good as our closer (which is usually easier than coming in to a tight situation against a lefty power hitter like Ortiz). He’s been very good – but hardly dominating. Saves are a useless stat, but he’ll probably make the all-star team because of them (and the lack of an real outstanding performance from everyone else on the team).

That said, he’s number 6. But still, I expected this performance from him, and I didn’t expect Albers, Scott, or Bierd to be as good as they have been.

Also, in retrospect I’d flip Bierd and Scott in my list.

F**** cabrera man. I hate baseball.

I had written this one off way before I got that. From the 1st inning it was Vintage DCab (aka bad pitching)

I still can’t believe it. I love baseball.

George Sherrill is kicking ass and is also able to slice roast beef with the brim of his hat.

Biggest surprise hands down. There’s no debate. Straight up All-Star.

    HAhahahahaha got me

  • dan the man

True, certainly no one predicted an All-Star caliber performance as the closer. He’s even got a shot to break the O’s single season record for saves if everything breaks his way. This guy was a lefty specialist? Seattle barely used him, too.

Let’s experiment. My comment got caught in the filter. Will this identical comment get caught, too?

I swear the spam filter has a mind of its own sometimes. Why it caught these last three comments is beyond me. Luckily I caught it pretty quick.

    From the Sun:

“He didn’t pitch good enough, bottom line,” Trembley said. “To be honest with you, I don’t think he was ever comfortable pitching out of the bullpen. We have to move on and we did. … Everybody saw the way he pitched; let that all speak for itself. I’m not going to address anything in particular. You know, we made the move, and that should be self-explanatory. Now we go onto something else.”

Damn, Dave! No bullshit, tell it like it is.

I bet DT was angry to even have to use him at all this year.

I love AndyMac and trust in his judgement and try to apply “What would Andy do” to all facets of my life.

But he’s got Trachmarks on his arm from this one.

Should have ended this chapter with the cubs trade.

Olson and the Fat Man tonight. Fat Man’s gravity pulled him right back to Earth in his last start, although the Sox have seen Olson already this year, and that usually ain’t good.

I’d like to see yesterday’s momentum carry over today so we can take a game that we really should be able to take.

    how about “The Gibbons Letter”

It’s sad to read. I cried. The poor desperate bastard, willing to play for free.

We should make a Free Agent Steroid League for pay per view or something. Everything could go to charity.

  • Greg

Willing to play for free my ass. He isn’t donating his salary from the Orioles, just his minor league contract salary. He’s still making $11M over the next two years, what’s $350K to him?

He’s just trying to show everyone he’s got what it takes to be a major leaguer again, and first the foot has to be in the door. I would be willing to bet the charity thing would end after the Orioles stop paying him.

  • 2rings4varitek

Well it wasn’t 4-3 but I called an O’s win tonight.

They won’t be so lucky tonight as our ace in the hole (Colon) gets to go again.

    7-5 Sox tonight.

The question is, will Okajima pitch if necessary? The Orioles have killed him this year.

BTW, I e-mailed Drew Forrester yesterday and asked him if would object to being part of a media vote here but he didn’t respond yet. I’ll let you know if I hear from him.

  • 2rings4varitek

I meant to say that I called the O’s win last night, not tonight. In a hurry at work so my boss doesn’t walk in. Sorry.

  • neal s

It wouldn’t really matter one way or the other whether he approves of the idea. I’m pretty sure I’m not going to do it, though, mainly because he counts as part of the community and it’s a different situation.

  • Joe the Guy

thank you greg i cant believe i forgot about the eleven million it makes far more sense now
