Ravens-Colts: Unconventional Wisdom

the original, old-school Baltimore Colts logoEven the most devout Ravens fan has surely come to terms with this: there’s nothing in the team’s recent play to suggest that they have any chance to beat the Colts today. The team that struggled to score points against the Browns can’t beat the Colts. The team that lost three in a row can’t beat the Colts. The team that fell twice to Cincinnati can’t beat the Colts.

Thing is, I’m not convinced the Ravens are that team. At least not all of the time.

If our look at the Ravens is less “what have you done for me lately” and more “what have you done” then things start to loosen up. There have been flashes here and there. Offensive outbursts, stretches of dominance. Displays of strength. Things like playing the Patriots tough on the road, and playing a very good Vikings team to within a few inches of a win in a hostile environment.

The problems are well-documented, and the fact that the most glaring weakness (secondary) plays to the very thing at which the Colts most excel doesn’t bode well.

But I don’t know what it is…I’ve got a feeling about this one. The Ravens need a signature win to resuscitate their playoff hopes, and the Colts aren’t going to win every game they play. Something’s brewing here.

I’m going out on the limb: Ravens 27, Colts 24.

I know all of the reasons why that sounds impossible. In a way that’s the very reason I think it’s going to happen.

Did I miss something? Did the Raven’s get a kicker? Because, as much as I would love to see that score, the Raven’s can’t score an odd number without one.
But otherwise, sounds good. I always prefer optimism.

Well Billy Cundiff is no Matt Stover but I have to think he’s better than Hauschka was. I guess we’ll find out today.

name me a team with more talent than the ravens that always seems to do enough to lose or almost lose or almost win. this is why to me they’re more frustrating than any other in the league as a fan.

they basically have to go undefeated the rest of the way (which given ben’s injury isn’t impossible but i’m sure they’ll lose to like, the raiders or something).

also watching chris chambers run all over the steelers made me wanna kill the ravens for not taking a better look at him when he was available.
