Ravens-Titans: Bound for Glory?

Baltimore Ravens logoI’m in a bit of a rush this morning so you’ll have to forgive the lack of pithy analysis. And besides, I think my previous post said all there is to say: the Ravens absolutely can win this game, but nobody should be surprised if they don’t.

Here’s an open thread for discussing the game, its progress, its aftermath. It’s weird because it could be the last Ravens gameday thread for awhile. This season has taken on a kind of life where it feels like it can’t end. I suppose we’ll know for sure by 8 o’clock.

Enjoy the game…

i have no prediction on gameday other than i expect an absolutely BRUTAL game where i fully expect some 15 yard penalties early.

other than that, i can honestly say if the ravens lose i will be unequivocally happy with this season – and particularly excited about this team’s future. if they win, the season will be be ridiculous already.

now go stomp the hell out of ‘em guys.

Let’s do this. I’ve never been this excited for a football game. I’ve literally been pacing for the last 3 hours with nothing to do. I’m back and forth on the prediction. I don’t have any expectations anymore.

    Let’s do this thing.

Joe Flacco is “not a rookie anymore”. Man what a throw. It reminded me of earlier in the year when I’d write off a drive on 3rd and really long and Flacco would come through with a huge pass.

Consider me Wacco for our veteran quarterback.

Titans fans cheering an injury. Classy.

I can’t believe we let the Titans off the hook at their 1 yard line. Frustrating.

  • New Mexico Ravens/O's Fan

Titans O-Line is getting away with a ridiculous amount of holding in this game so far.

  • Andrew in Rochester

The Titans in general are getting away with a lot, but they’re also getting called on a lot, too. Real smash-mouth football that is doing a number on my blood pressure. The Ravens’ offense NEEDS to get going if we’re going to have a chance at winning this game. Outside of that one awesome throw, Flacco et al. has looked pretty weak so far. They need to keep the defense off the field for a lot longer in the second half.

    I’m a little worried.

Nice return by Leonhard! Gotta get something done here on offense!

  • New Mexico Ravens/O's Fan

Wow! Amazing catch by Clayton on an ill-advised throw into double coverage. Shame he didn’t score.

    Algeeeeee….Algeeee…..Algeeee….

Let’s recap the last 30 seconds of my life:

OH GOD nonononononon, that’s a damn touchdo-

    FUMBLE!! yesyesyesyesyesyes hahahaha!!

This is getting a lil intense.

  • Andrew in Rochester

This is it. If we can hold them here, I like our odds. A tall task to be sure, but This Is It.

  • New Mexico Ravens/O's Fan

    Gotta blitz better/more often…

  • New Mexico Ravens/O's Fan

Thank you Todd Heap! (I forgot you even existed there for a while).

Weird non-call on delay of game…

  • New Mexico Ravens/O's Fan

It’s good! Now if I can just get my heart out of my throat…

C’mon defense. Ed Reed, I’m looking at you bud!

  • Andrew in Rochester

    It’s Gooooooooooooooooood!!!

Now can we just not snatch defeat from the jaws of victory?

  • Andrew in Rochester

    Oh fuck yeeaaaaaaaaaaah!

  • New Mexico Ravens/O's Fan

    WOOOOOO!!!!

I nearly lost it when Nakamura missed that pick.

  • random dude

Wow, that was tough to watch… but fun to celebrate. RAVENS, BABY!

  • Andrew in Rochester

OK, having had a while to celebrate and think, I’m thinking the Ravens got extremely lucky tonight. Which is great – I’d rather be lucky than done for the year. But man oh man what a game…we’re going to need a long week going back into Pittsburgh next week. It’s going to be EPIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIC

  • Big Ben's Motorcycle

the ravens were not lucky tonight. get that out of your head.

good teams win when they’re supposed to win.

great teams win when they ain’t supposed to win.

    i’ve seen it before.

    eight years ago.

    totally. speechless.

  • sci

I was wrong, I’m happy to admit. Nice win for sure.

In other news, good lord Delhomme was horrible. That’s probably the worst performance I’ve ever seen by a QB in the playoffs.

I only watched the second half of the game yesterday, but I was quite impressed. This team has that intangible quality — call it “momentum”, call it “luck”, whatever — that propels good teams to greatness. It’s pretty crazy, but they look like 100% legit Super Bowl contenders.

It’s up to Pittsburgh now to set up a game so insane I have to hold off on even considering it.

  • dan the man

3 turnovers by Tennessee, all after big, extended drives into the end zone. Unbelievable. The Ravens D wasn’t exactly sparkling, but they got it done when it counted.

It doesn’t hurt that that kid (Johnson was it?) that was burning us on the running game got hurt. Speaking of people getting hurt, man o man… you could tell both teams were giving it 300% out there because they were dropping like flies every other play it seemed like.

Our running game went nowhere (where is Ray Rice??), but it was Flacco and Stover that got it done.

You all are welcome to go back to my piece at WNST.net from last Monday where I “guaranteed” the Ravens would beat the Titans. It’s all there for historical evidence.

And, if Pittsburgh is fortunate enough to win today (which, I think, they will), I will again offer another promise that Baltimore will win next Sunday at Heinz Field.

Book that shit…Baltimore will go to the Super Bowl if they play the Steelers next Sunday.

If somehow – not out of the question given their history – the Steelers choke today against San Diego, I would be a little concerned about that match-up next Sunday in San Diego.

Not at all concerned about Pittsburgh, though.

Root like hell for those assholes in black and gold today, cuz it sews up a trip to the big game for the Ravens if they win.

  • Andrew in Rochester

How the hell did the Cards blow out the Panthers yesterday? We were sitting around last night joking that Carolina was going to beat Arizona so bad they’d lose twice. Now I feel like a real idiot.

I still like the Eagles and the Steelers. After that, I have no clue what happens, but I definitely don’t share Drew’s optimism about a potential rematch in Pittsburgh.

Man oh man what a year.

  • Big Ben's Motorcycle

i can’t believe this shit. a friend of mine in nyc picked the ravens, cardinals, eagles, and chargers two days ago. i told him if that happens i’ll send him crabcakes and an autographed wire hoodie.

    FUCK!!!

  • Andrew in Rochester

It had to be this way. This was always how it was going to end. And I’ll say this: whoever wins in Pittsburgh will win the Super Bowl.

My God, how am I going to make it through this week.

  • Big Ben's Motorcycle

    early thoughts:

if suggs, rolle, and leonard play the ravens win.

if suggs and especially rolle don’t play the steelers win.

  • Tomás

AiR, at least you’re not an hour south of Pittsburgh at WVU. I don’t know which is driving me more crazy right now, the Steelers fans or all the Jersey kids FLIPPING OUT over the Phillies winning the World Series/Eggles 1 win away from going to the Super Bowl.

I would say the Jersey kids, but there’s something eerie with how quiet the Steeler fans are right now around here. I’m sure the fit will hit the shan though later next week.
