@neal s - Fair enough...but I live in Rochester, NY and while my heart is in Baltimore I really can't speak to things like dying Baltimore institutions. It just isn't my place.

Man, ryan97ou can attest to the fact that I'm a huge racing fan. I got my nerd on with him Tuesday night regarding NASCAR and Formula One. I watch that stuff quite a bit, I just don't mention it here. You'd all probably get bored real quick.

With this post I'm more interested in the importance of Preakness as a Baltimore institution and how the Maryland Jockey Club has managed to fuck that up.

Truth is, though, that I pretty much see the writing on the wall.

I would like the Preakness to stay in Baltimore, but that's about as far as I can go in terms of talking about Preakness. I am conscious of its history and importance, but I'd watch Curling before I watched Horse Racing. If there was anything to remotely relate to about rich jockies riding other rich dudes' horses which are all likely pumped full of steroids, then I might feel differently. It's a mercenary sport with a creepy atmosphere of rabid betting behind it. I don't really get it, I guess.

But damnit, people should be able to get drunk on their own booze. I do relate to that.
