Trembley’s Strange Brew
I’m looking at the lineup for tonight’s game and I’m seeing something that bothers me more and more: MelmO in the five hole.
I’m obviously not the only one troubled by this, as the comments on Roch’s blog attest. For once, I side with the masses. There’s absolutely no reason that spot shouldn’t go to either Scott (.315, 14 HR, 1.017 OPS) or Reimold (.281, 7 HR, .892 OPS). In general I believe a manager should show deference to proven veterans, but this is a bit much.
I’m not ready to jump ship on Trembley yet, but he’s been getting a little weird lately. His DSI (Diet Soda Index) is all out of whack.
I guess it means little if they win tonight, though. It’s Adam “Bubbles” Jones bobblehead night at the Yard tonight, an event which all by itself seems to have persuaded God to halt the Great Rain. The rest is up to Koji.
Also of note: Brian Matusz makes his Bowie debut tonight. Steve Melewski will be live-blogging it for MASN.

WIETERS!
First major league tater, first two major league RBI.
I loved how nonchalant Wieters was about hitting that too. It was such a hard spot to hit in the ball in and didn’t look at all like a home run from the swing of the bat, but the dude is STRONG.
The dude that caught that must be stoked beyond belief.
Sorry, 2 too many “in”s.
Four hits from Markakis today, and a stolen base on top of it. Looks like the stroke is back.
Matusz, meanwhile, went 6 innings with 3 hits, 1 run, 0 earned, 1 walk, 10 K on 89 pitches (57 strikes).
And just now Aubrey Huff hits his first homer since May 26.
Lots of Birdland tonight.
HUFF DADDY!
You know how he did it? Blowin’ bubbles past 1st. Saw it my own eyes on the teevee, sh!t you not.
Not sure how to feel about Koji’s line tonight:
5 innings, 7 hits, 2 runs (both earned), 0 walks, 5 K on 89 pitches (63 strikes)
No bad by any means, but more and more it seems like 5 innings and 80-90 pitches is his max. Can we live with that?
BACK…in the WIN column!
And a well-deserved shaving cream pie in the face for Wieters.
Another good game, although the Orioles bullpen needs to be pretty good for Koji’s games and tonight Bass and Hendrickson did their best to give it up. I don’t particularly have a problem with Koji starting throughout this season, but I seriously doubt he’s even remotely viewed as a starter when the arms come up.
The ongoing Melmo 5-hole Experience is irritating to me, even though I know that it means very little in the scheme of things. Tonight it was covered up by a general strong offensive showing despite nothing from Roberts or Jones (which is hard to believe).
@Tomás – Was at that game along the third base line. Had a decent view of the guy who caught the ball. Definitely stoked beyond belief. They escorted him and his buddy up the stairs after they found him to get the ball back. He was going nuts, high fiving everybody along the stairs. Fun game despite the weather last night.
Nice game, and a good positive pick-me-up that I needed. I was going negative there for a minute, but now I’ve got a fresh pot of Kool Aid.
WIETERS. I enjoyed the fact that Reimold was the other run driven in by that home run. It seems fitting.
HUFF. Off of one of the toughest lefty relievers in the game right now, too. He hung one and Aubrey didn’t miss it. Boy, was he due.
I like that Nick stole a base more than the fact that he got 4 hits. Believe it or not, Nick still could stand to work on a few areas of his game, the timely stolen base being one of them.
I can’t believe that Hendrickson got out of that jam with a double play. I still can’t believe it this morning. I was so pissed when DT put him in because there was no way he wasn’t going to give up less than 2 runs in that situation, but sure enough it worked out alright. Still not sure why you don’t just go with Matt Albers right there and go for the DP, lefty at the plate or not.
Lastly, Keith Hernandez is a freaking ridiculous broadcaster. Oddly enough, though, I find him kind of enjoyable to listen to. Back, and to the left.
I have a strangely good feeling about Berken tonight.

Many of you have probably already seen this, but it’s a interesting article on my Least Favorite Oriole of all time. I knew it! A total, complete fraud.
Maybe a good topic for a thread — Least Favorite Oriole…
was at the game last night and literally 5 seconds before wieter’s HR (long pop fly) i was telling the guys next to me “watch…here it comes…he’s so due”. pretty sweet.
also…sight of the day had to be the guy 3 rows behind me wearing jean shorts, a yankees shirt, and a mets hat.
@ryan97ou – That’s a guy you almost have to feel sorry for.
i texted my mets friend, who’s response simply was “punch him for me”
I was there last night to see His first HR, and I got 2 AJ bobbleheads
The last bobblehead I got was the two-part Roberts and Mora handshake bobblehead. That was sweet. But this one is probably the best in awhile, I really want one.
