Orioles Agree to Terms With Guthrie
Real quick: the Orioles and Jeremy Guthrie have agreed to terms, avoiding arbitration.
No word yet on the money but this is very good news. After the messy situation with Guthrie’s salary last year an arbitration hearing — in which, essentially, the team would have listed his shortcomings — would not have been a good idea.
Great news. Roch is reporting they settled at $3 million, which seems right on the money, especially considering the two years when he single-handedly held the rotation together. Last year’s 200 innings was huge as well. I’m expecting somewhere in between last season and his good seasons – something like a 4.33 ERA sounds about right.
Can anyone confirm that MacPhail has a perfect record in regards to avoiding arbitration hearings with the Orioles? It doesn’t seem like many organizations go to arbitration anymore, but I remember in the past the O’s having some uncomfortable and unnecessary arbitration hearings.
I’m glad to see that about Guthrie. He had a bad year last year but I think he’ll bounce back knowing that he has help in the rotation, and doesn’t have to be the ace he isn’t.
Hard for me to not mention the big Wizards-Mavs trade that just went down. Say goodbye to Butler and Haywood, say hello to cap room and full-on rebuilding. Commence destruction. I also think Grunfeld should be canned, but that’s just me.
