Quick Thoughts On the Orioles Hot Stove
I have a longer post brewing about all things Hot Stove and Orioles-related but I don’t have it quite formulated yet. I get the sense, however, that things might get active in the next few days. In anticipation of that, a few thoughts (and a comments section that’s wide open for following the developments):
— One thing I like about Dan Duquette so far is his willingness to talk. I can’t remember an O’s GM (or whatever the title is) being this present in the media with seemingly honest answers about the team’s plans. I can’t say I necessarily believe everything he’s saying but it’s nice that he’s giving the beat writers something to work with.
— Anyone who still clings to the Prince Fielder dream is, well, dreaming.
— It seems like the trade market is going to heat up pretty quickly. My hunch on that is that we’ll see some surprises, and I’d bet they move a guy we don’t expect them to move. Maybe not someone on the level of Adam Jones but it seems like some of the young pitchers will be in play.
Overall, I’m finding myself more intrigued than I thought I’d be at this stage. The jury will be out on Duquette for some time but early indications are that he won’t be a shrinking violet. That, in itself, makes things interesting.
