Endorsements
This page is all about community interests that fall outside of the post-by-post discussions. To add your two cents, simply leave a comment on this page. It will automatically show up both here and under “Endorsements” in the left sidebar.
Pretty much anything is fair game. Music, movies, food/drink — whatever’s on your mind. Usual comment rules apply.
Duckpin rock-and-bowl at Stoneleigh lanes on York Road. That’s good stuff.
@neal s – I love that place! A true gem. BYOB is a great touch, also.
Just don’t go on a Saturday afernoon with 12 thirsty dudes and about 70 beers. The mothers of the 25 birthday parties going on look down upon you with suspicion and disgust.
Magic Hat H.I.P.A. We’re a little early for a spring beer, but it’s good stuff.
Cask ale. It’s big in Rochester and freaking amazing, if you can find it.
BASEBALL A-COMIN’
Red House Tavern. Cheap Bohs and trivia nights. Occasional bad open mic night. Fried food. Dive bar in Canton away from the trendy section. Thumbs up.
Watchmen (book), which is great. Stay away from Watchmen (movie), which was horrible.
I don’t get out to White Marsh very often, but whenever I do I’m down with Red Brick Station. Those microbrews are outstanding.
I’ve been reading a lot of Sam Shepard’s works (Buried Child, True West, Motel Chronicles), as well as some of his acting work (The Right Stuff) and it’s all very outstanding. Speaks to my soul.
“The Road” by Cormac McCarthy. Excellent book. Movie due out this summer. You won’t regret reading it.
“Last Night at the Lobster” by Stewart O’Nan is a beautifully observed piece of work. Can’t recommend it enough, and at 146 pages you can kill it in 1-2 sittings.
Rescue Me. Between it and Mad Men and Breaking Bad, television hasn’t been this good to me in a long time.
“The Sovereign Individual”, while written back in 1997 has been eerily prescient. Writers do a good job of trendcasting and come off as “political atheists” (their term) very well.

Sorry, Robert Andrew, but “Endorsements” is not a place for ads. If you want something like that mentioned just get in touch and we’ll work it out.
2009 rookies, and hopefully 2010 rookies
I think the server issues have quieted down, so the Endorsements sidebar is live once more.
